Upcoming Mayoral Debates

Debates are developing, but so far we have two upcoming debates: One from the Valley Breeze on August 26th, and one coming September 8th sponsored by the Pawtucket Times and the Gamm Threatre. Don't miss these opportunites to find out where the candidates stand on economic development, deficits, education and more.

Also on September 8th, the City Council will review and vote on the Proposed Demolition Delay ordinance in the City Hall Council Chambers. This meeting is open to the public.

City honors a Native Son

The City of Pawtucket will honor Morris Nathanson by dedicating the Exchange Street bridge over the Blackstone River – steps away from Mr. Nathanson's Blackstone Landing building – the Morris Nathanson bridge. Come down to the Veterans's Memorial Amphitheatre (next to the Fire Station on the corner of Exchange and Roosevelt) to join the City in honoring Morris. Starts at 4:00.

New Businesses for summer 2010

Spires Despite the sad news that Kafe Lila closed (in the Grant Building), there are some positives that we would like to focus on:

  • An empty building that is part of Blackstone Landing (Morris Nathanson Design, Exchange St) has been sold to a Providence architectural firm. A construction trailer has taken up residence in the parking lot, and progress will begin soon on this major design complex addition.
  • Shri Yoga Studio has been open for a couple of months on Broad Street, just around the corner from the China Inn. With a wide range of yoga approaches, meditation (in Spanish and English), thoroughly trained teachers, and a terrific attitude, the studio offers many classes including a free community class on Tuesday afternoons.
  • All Nations Food Store will be opening soon on East Avenue (Singer building), across from the old Boys and Girls Club and just a half block from Main St at Sovereign Bank.
  • African National Heritage Media office will open in a space at 255 Main Street, providing newspaper and radio press releases regarding African and American connections.
  • A new storefront decor for Pawtucket Pawn at 255 Main Street was developed by students of Andrew Thurlow, professor of Architecture at Roger Williams University, to explore inexpensive and dramatic displays with modular approaches.
  • Tierra restaurant with its Mediterranean menu, drinks and karaoke bar is now open on Exchange St next to the Pawtucket Times Building. On street and valet parking are available.
